The Impact: Youth Programs in Focus

As a former foster youth, I have experienced firsthand the long-term impact of community-based organizations within under-served communities. I first discovered my passion for the arts and social justice practices through my participation in after-school programs. Youth-led programs provided the necessary space and tools to foster a deeper understanding of self and community while harnessing my voice as a leader in my community. 

The impact: Youth Programs In Focus is a short video series that pieces together the stories and lived experiences of alumni who’ve participated in DC-based programs as a youth. The series explores issues of race, class, gender, and nationality as alumni contend with their lived experiences as former high school youth in DC and how it has shaped who they are today.
