MEET KHADIJAH
Khadijah Wilson was born in Staten Island, NY and raised in Washington D.C., where she attended the Corcoran School of Art + Design to obtain her Bachelor of Fine Arts. As a trained interdisciplinary visual artist, Wilson has a wide range of skill sets across various mediums including drawing, painting, sculpture, photography, and video. Wilson has a natural eye for detail and an appreciation for various art forms.
As a youth, Wilson discovered her passion for social justice work and visual art through her participation in community-based programs. During this time, she worked alongside activists and youth across the district to advocate for change in undeserved schools and communities. She co-led a campaign to implement Restorative justice practices in DCPS schools, an alternative to suspensions and expulsions which disproportionately effects Black and Brown students. Her involvement with grassroots organizations at an early age informed her creative practice and sparked her interest to work in the non-profit sector.
Working primarily in video, photography and sculpture, Wilson explores themes of race, gender, sexuality, class, and nationality. She believes that compelling visual content has the power to transform ideas into stories that connect with real people.
